When friends come to stay in Tokyo, one of the first things they tell me is that hotels are so expensive here. A tiny little business hotel with bathtubs made for midgets can easily cost $100+, and although Airbnb is always an option sometimes even that can get quite pricey.
If being spot in the middle of Shinjuku is your priority, staying at a capsule hotel may be a choice.
But if you don't mind being a couple of stations away, here are 6 chic but budget-friendly hostels where you are more likely to meet some interesting people, so you can share a cab on your way back from a club in Shibuya, or drinks in Shinjuku at 3 in the morning!
